With over 40 years of extensive experience providing accounting, tax, and consulting services, primarily for residential development for sale and lease, and commercial real estate development and operation, Michael Embree is well-respected in his industry.
Mike’s clients have included large institutional investors, small investment groups, and closely-held companies with multiple investors and partners. Mike joined the firm of Lawrence & Lewis as a partner in 2020 where he is responsible for providing customized services to facilitate the success of his clients.
Prior to joining Lawrence & Lewis, Mike served as the chief financial officer and a member of the executive committee for a national business law, regulatory insurance, and real estate law firm with offices in Southern California, New York and Illinois. His responsibilities there included preparing and reporting on the annual budget, annual tax planning, preparation of financial statements and development of operating and
accounting efficiencies.
Mike previously served as the CFO of a closely-held, residential development company with multiple legal entities in Southern California where he reviewed proposed transactions of $10M+ deals for condominium units; advised the owners on appropriate structuring, cash flow analysis and forecasting; and acted as the liaison for project investors and lenders.
Mike spent the first 20 years of his career at the firm of Kenneth Leventhal & Company (which was later acquired by Ernst & Young), serving for twelve of those years as a partner. Prior to the merger, he was the partner in charge of the Los Angeles Office Attest Services, supervising six partners and 60 professionals. Additionally, he provided client services to entities engaged in all aspects of real estate development and investment including: financial reporting, business consulting and tax planning as well as return preparation for corporations, partnerships and individuals.
During his twenty years with Kenneth Leventhal, Mike served as the chairman of the Los Angeles Chapter of Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee. He was a member of the California State Accounting Auditing and Standards Committee; California State University, Northridge, Advisory Council for the School of Accounting and Management Advisory Services; and the California State University, Northridge Real Estate Council. Mike is a graduate of California State University, Northridge and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
